• Melbourne Polytechnic, formerly NMIT, is a TAFE and higher education institute located predominantly in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, but also in the south with a campus at Prahran, Victoria, Australia.

• It has six functioning campuses located at Preston, Collingwood, Epping, Fairfield, Heidelberg, Prahran, and country training facilities at Eden Park, Yan Yean and Ararat. Each campus provides an individual, unique and enriching student experience.

• Melbourne Polytechnic courses are designed and developed with industry participation to give students the best employment outcomes.

• There are also six training centres, Northern Lodge – Eden Park, Northern Lodge – Yan Yean, Yarra Glen Racing Centre, Northern AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program) Centre in Broadmeadows, Growling Frog Vineyard and Melbourne Polytechnic Kyneton Park.

• With over 60,000 enrolments annually, Melbourne Polytechnic is accredited to deliver approximately 550 nationally accredited courses, many which are available on either a full-time or part-time basis. It also provides over 400 institute-accredited courses.

• In October 2014, NMIT decided to reposition itself in the tertiary education market under the Melbourne Polytechnic brand, appointing Publicis Mojo to coordinate the change. The change was facilitated by a $19 million grant from the Victorian Government.

• A wide selection of study options in vocational education are offered from short courses, pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and traineeships through to certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, and onto higher education, tertiary degrees under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

• In 2013, there were 511 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) teaching staff and 348.5 (FTE) support staff employed by Melbourne Polytechnic delivering over 500 courses.

• There were 50,203 total enrolments as at November 2014 including 6,284 off-shore students at overseas partner institutions.

• Melbourne Polytechnic is the largest provider of primary industry training in Victoria and one of the largest in Australia offering a diverse range of courses from practical short-courses to a Bachelor of Equine Studies and Bachelor of Agriculture and Technology focusing on Viticulture, Agronomy, Agribusiness and Aquaculture.

  • Melbourne Polytechnic degree courses offer credit transfer and recognition of prior learning to students who have already completed a nationally recognized Diploma, Advanced Diploma or other qualifications.
  • Direct entry Associate degrees (2 years) embedded in all Melbourne Polytechnic degree programs offer great pathway (credit transfer and recognition of prior learning) opportunities to further education.
